GRE (Graduate Record Examinations)

GRE is considered to be one of the major and important entrance exams for many graduate and undergraduate schools all across the globe to assess international and local students. Additionally, several fellowship and scholarship programs also took the GRE exam result into account. Since its wide acceptance and usage as required criteria for many courses, GRE is conducted stringently.

Availability of GRE test

Again, two tests are available in GRE - the GRE General test and the GRE Subject exam. Your verbal reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and analytical writing abilities will be tested on the GRE General Test. In contrast, the GRE Subject Exam will evaluate your knowledge of a certain field or domain. So if you are planning for an admission to grad school or study abroad, then the GRE general exam is what you need to prepare for!

GRE test eligibility

The omission of any precise qualifying requirements for the GRE is excellent news. Everyone, regardless of age or academic background, is allowed to take the exam. The sole prerequisite is that, when taking the GRE, you should have a legitimate document that ETS has designated as identification.

GRE syllabus and pattern

As said, the GRE general test has parts that test verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing.

  • Verbal reasoning - This part usually has 2 sections of twenty questions each, and you can have a maximum of 30 minutes for each section. Verbal reasoning covers sentence equivalence, text completion, and reading comprehension.
  • Quantitative reasoning - This part usually also has 2 sections of forty questions each, and you can have a maximum of 35 minutes for each section. Quantitative reasoning has quantitative comparisons, problem-solving items, and data interpretation questions.
  • Analytical writing - Writing two essays on "Analyze a problem" and "Analyze an argument" is required for this part. Each writing will have a 30-minute time limit.
